Gou Teng (Gambir Plant) - Gambir the magician

Gambir Gou Teng was a woodland (LV) magician who learned to make fireballs and pacify the liver of angry foes by charming them. He could even extinguish and control the wind itself, but he didn't use that trick very often since it sometimes gave him spasms and convulsions if he cooked his spell for longer than 20 minutes.

  • Extinguishes wind; alleviates spasms and convulsions (high fever with LYR, childhood convulsions due to high fever, Liver wind with tremors, clenching of jaw, seizures, eclampsia, stroke / bells palsy due to LV wind with phlegm)
  • Clears LV fire, pacifies LYR (Liver fire and LYR induced headache, dizziness, irritability, red eyes, windstroke, modern use for hypertension; also for wind-heat with fever, headache, red eyes)

    Special Notes:
  • Gou Teng acts as a sedative but not a tranquilizer. It maintains the shen but does not treat insomnia.
  • Gou Teng and Ren Dong Teng both treat wind. Gou Teng is stronger in treating twitching and spasm caused by LV wind and LV heat, whereas Ren Dong Teng relieves pain due to wind-heat in the channels and collaterals.
  • Gou Teng and Tian Ma both treat twitching, pacify the LV, and extinguish wind. Gou Teng is cold has is stronger to extinguish wind d/t LYR. Tian Ma does not clear heat as strongly as Gou Teng, but it is stronger to relieve pain and also moistens dryness.
